USAIN BOLT HAVING FUN AT RIO OLYMPICS (PHOTOS)
On the eve of his attempt to win a third treble of Olympic sprint Gold
medal titles of 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay, Usain Bolt decided that the
best way to grab the media attention ahead of his press conference was
to dance with scantily dressed Samba dancers..and yes he did it.
Bolt, one of the few athletes to still maintain a clean slate when it comes to drug use, danced on stage on Monday
night alongside Omar McLoed as he encouraged fans to buy tickets as he
prepares to win gold medals just like he did in Beijing 2008 and London
2012 Olympics.
In a press conference at the Cidade Das Artes, and showed live back in his country Jamaica, Bolt, 29, said;
In life nothing is guaranteed, But I never worry about that. That is down to WADA and IOC to deal with. I go to compete and wow the crowds. But I think the sport is going in the right direction. We are weeding out the bad ones. That is why people should have faith. We have to go through the bad times to get to the good times. I believe it will be a clean sport in a few years. Finally i no sure say anybody go fit stop this guy shine, na my favorite to be the fastest man again during this olympic games,,time go tell sha

HOW PATORANKING RECORDED AN ALBUM ABOUT GOD, HIS LIFE AND LOVE
On August 7, 2016, Patoranking brought the media to a Lagos Hotel.
There was a flurry of activity as the 'Girlie oh'
singer walked into the room with intent. The time was some minutes
after 2pm, as a contingent of handlers, photographers, and pressmen
trailed him into the hall. Decked in a scarlet 2 piece suit, and a pink
shirt.
He was assumed his position in front of the crowd, comprised of over 20 pressmen, technicians and radio hosts.
“I am very sorry for taking your time”, he began.
His apology was apt.
this press conference was meant to have started four hours ago.
Participants, which were drawn from various leading media houses, had
trickled in, many observing the curse of the African Time. But noon had
seen everyone gathered, having muted conversations, exchanging hugs, and
catching up on popular events leading up to that day. Four days ago,
the singer had released his debut album, “God Over Everything”. The LP
contains 16 songs, with collaborations drawn from a number two
continents. Wizkid, Patoranking, KWAM1, Elephant Man, Konshens, Olamide
and Phyno all had guest spots on the project.
““I
brought Phyno because he is from the east, so we need to give them
something from the East.” Patoranking offered. Responding to my question
about the direction of the album. I brought KWAM1 because I was born
here in the West, we need to give the Yorubas something. I brought in
Sarkodie because of my Ghana fan base, and Ghanaians in the diaspora. I
brought in Elephant Man and Konshens because ‘My woman my everything’ is
really doing very well in Jamaica, so I needed somebody to bridge the
gap.
I had expressed my concern about the
content of the album. Listening to the project had thrown up some level
of confusion in my mind, concerning the direction. This was a singer who
had made pop music, and stolen the hearts of the nation. From his 2013
hit song, ‘Alubarika’, which had an engaging reggae vibe, to
the 2015 Highlife instrumentals supplied by the Ebonyi State Band on
‘Make am’, he had made music designed to play at the mainstream level,
and appeal to the general populace. This has had its benefits. A deal
with VP Records was in the bag, he spent 2015 modelling for alcoholic
beverage, Skyy Vodka. Last year Headies also saw his songs ‘My woman my everything’, and ‘Daniella Whine’ nominated.
But the album arrived with a different feel. He digs into his influences from the ghetto and recreates Ajegunle, Konto, and
dancehall music, polishing and modernizing these sounds to create an
album that is in keeping with his original sound. There’s a contrasting
feeling that lingers due to the popular perception of Patoranking as a
Pop act, who achieves his brilliance via dancehall roots. That feeling
has been propagated by the success of his singles.
“I
started as a reggae dancehall artiste, and the truth is, the country is
not rich when it comes to that culture. They love the sound because
it’s different, and it’s new to them. And you know Nigerians. If you
want to be here for a very long time, they don’t need to see you coming.
I want to make music for everybody.” He reveals.
Over
the course of the press conference a part of Patoranking was evident:
his humble beginnings. The man was born in 1990. He grew up in Ijegun
Egba Satellite Town, Lagos, and later relocated to Ebute Metta,
two places without any aspiration to luxury. He once admitted in an
interview that odd jobs had made him survive during his days of lack,
selling rat poison and laying bricks to make ends meet. All of that is
reflected in the new album. Patoranking embraces God, who he credits as
being the driving force of his good fortunes. He also shares influences
from his past, and on many songs, preaches the message of love.
"I
named the album 'God Over Everything. looking at how rough this journey
started and where I am today - starting from the streets of Ghana where
at a point in time I had to drop out of the Cape Coast University due
to financial difficulties, then moved back to Nigeria where I served
under Timaya's 'Dem Mama Records' for years before finally getting the
green light,” says Patoranking.
Patoranking continues: “I’m
somebody that my music depicts my lifestyle, everything that has to be
about my upbringing and how I rose to fame. Patoranking generally, the
life and times of Patoranking. I got to figure out that a lot of people
want to be famous, a lot of people of people want to to be known for
different things, for wearing the best designers. Others for having a
lot of properties. But you know not everybody knows that despite
everything you have, it’s still vanity, it’s still God over everything.
“God Over
Everything” album will not only be officially released in Nigeria alone.
An unspecified number of countries have been mentioned, with Ghana,
South Africa, and Jamaica also included in the roll-out plan. That’s
where his 2015 deal with VP Records come in. Known as the world’s
biggest reggae record label, they gave Patoranking a recording deal in
2015. He rejected. Choosing to honour his legal contract with his
Nigerian house, Foston Music.
The contract I
signed with VP Records was a distribution contract.” He says. “Their
work was to distribute Pato’s album, singles and everything. Even though
what they wanted was a recording contract. Foston Music is the label.
It’s like every other record label that makes sure that everything is
being done properly for the artiste. VP was on the international side,
trying to take the face and brand of Patoranking outside Africa. They’re
distributing this one, it’s four days, and it is looking good. I was so
surprised to see it on the world reggae chart. I think it was number
one after day 3, and right now it is number 3.

BASKETBALL LEGEND MICHEAL JORDAN DONATES $5M TO NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE
NBA Legend Michael Jordan has donated $5 million to the National Museum
of African American History and Culture, museum officials announced Monday.
The monetary gift is the largest from a sports figure/personality to the
museum. It pushes private donations to the museum to $278 million.
Jordan, 53, also gave a jersey that he wore during the 1996 NBA Finals
to the museum’s permanent collection.
Including aid from the federal government, the museum, which President Obama will open September 24, has raised more than $548 million.
In recognition of the gifts, the museum will name a section of its sports gallery the Michael Jordan Hall.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to support this museum,” Jordan said in a statement. I also am indebted to the historic contributions of community leaders and athletes such as Jesse Owens, whose talent, commitment and perseverance broke racial barriers and laid the groundwork for the successful careers of so many African Americans in athletics and beyond.”
Museum Founding Director Lonnie G. Bunch III expressed gratitude for the contribution.
“His gift will enable our visitors to explore how sports were used to break barriers as a way to gain full participation in American society,” Bunch said in a statement.

POSSIBLE INCREASE IN FUEL PRICE?
The price of fuel was increased to N145 from N86 on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 after the Federal Government scrapped the subsidy regime.
The naira is currently selling at N400 to the dollar after reaching unprecedented levels last week.
“The
truth is that Nigerians just have to brace for higher PMS price; there
are no two ways about it. The government cannot fund this market; the
money is not just there,” one oil marketer told Punch.
“Even
if the government wishes to assist, it does not have the wherewithal to
do. So, Nigerians should brace for higher rates. We are all aware that
the price of crude has been falling in the international market and it
is the dollar the government gets from crude sale that it uses to solve
forex problems. So, there’s no fast rule or solution to it than for all
of us, both users and marketers, to just prepare for a price hike.
“For
marketers, they should know that the days of higher profits are gone.
Before now, if you want to import petrol, you’ll have to wait for months
and possibly bribe some people to get an import licence.
“But
those days are gone; nowadays, every interested dealer can get the
licence and this has created room for competition, which is why you
still get the product at around N140 to N145 per litre. We only hope
that this will continue as the dollar availability improves,” he added.
The
price of fuel was increased to N145 from N86 on Wednesday, May 11, 2016
after the Federal Government scrapped the subsidy regime.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, said at the time that pegging petrol at N145 was the best solution to the fuel crisis being experienced in the country.
Na beg i dey beg, anybody wey saby the people wey dey incharge of this fuel price thing, make you start to dey warn dem now o. as e dey hot like this na every saturday women dey complain say things don cost for market wella..e go better na poor man prayer so wetin i go talk now?

NFF APPOINTS GERNOT ROHR AS NEW TECHNICAL ADVISER FOR SUPER EAGLES OF NIGERIA
Gernot Rohr was appointed after the recommendation from the Technical and Development Committee of the NFF.
German coach, Gernot Rohr has signed a two-year-deal with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to become the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles.
Rohr was appointed after the recommendation from the Technical and Development Committee of the NFF.
His appointment comes after the unsuccessful attempt by the NFF to appoint Frenchman, Paul Le Guen as the Technical adviser of Nigeria.
The 63-year-old German has managed the likes of Bordeaux, Nice, Étoile Sahel, Nantes , the national teams of Gabon, Niger and Burkina Faso.
He last managed the national team side of Burkina Faso before he was fired in December, 2015.
NFF's Technical Committee revealed that they meet with the former German defender and was considered suitable for the job.
The NFF have also confirmed that Rohr has agreed to live in Nigeria.
“The
committee was impressed with Mr. Rohr’s profile and current activities
for the German Football Federation (DFB), so we invited him to Nigeria
for exhaustive deliberations," Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, vice chairman of the committee said after meeting the German on Saturday, August 6.
“He was very
positive, showed great interest in the job and is ready and willing to
live in Nigeria. He is also willing to work with indigenous Nigerian
coaches and with the committee, and believes the Super Eagles can
qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which is very important to the NFF.
He swayed the committee with his calmness, good knowledge of the
African terrain, focus and maturity.
“Mr.
Rohr has the character and confidence to take the Super Eagles to new
heights of excellence. He has rich knowledge of both sub –Saharan and
North African terrains and truly impressed the committee."
Rohr took Bordeaux to the UEFA Cup final in 1996 where they lost to Bayern Munich of Germany.
He
was one of the 20 coaches that initially applied for the position of
Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles but did not even make the final
three man short-list.
Frenchman, Paul Le Guen alongside Salisu Yusuf and Belgian Tom Sainfiet made the final short-list.
Le Guen who was later selected, rejected the chance to be the coach of the Super Eagles after the NFF had made the announcement.
I dey hope say this new coach no go dull all the millions of fans wey dey support super eagles all over the country. football na still one of the major things wey dey unite us as a country. time go tell finally...

PRESIDENT BUHARI RELAUNCHES WAI BRIGADE IN ABUJA (PHOTO)
The Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA) Dr Garba Abari made the announcement in Abuja on the occasion of the National and State Commanders meeting of the Community Support Brigade (CSB).
"In
this era of insecurity, violence, kidnapping, and other forms of social
vices, the role of the Brigade in civil intelligence gathering cannot
be over emphasized", he said.
“The
present administration has declared its intention to re-launch the
Brigade for better performance and bring its activities to the fore”
Abari stated, charging members of the Brigade to contribute their quota
to make the Change mantra of this administration a reality.
In his remarks, the WAI Brigade National Commander, Mustapha Muhammad charged members to sustain the tempo of responsibility despite non-funding from the government for over three decades.
He
called on the federal government to officially recognize and gazette
the Brigade as it is the only voluntary organization in Nigeria.
He therefore urged NOA to work out modalities for the recognition of the WAI Brigade for greater efficiency.
In 1984, President Buhari and Tunde Idiagbon
launched the WAI programme to instill public morality, social order,
civic responsibilities in Nigerians, and promote Nigerian nationalism.
Recall that a pro-Buhari group, Change Ambassadors of Nigeria
had in April, 2015, urged President Buhari (then president-elect) to
re-introduce the War Against indiscipline (WAI) as soon as he is sworn
in on May 29, 2015.
My people abeg how una feel about this project? shey this kind level na our priority right now? Sometimes there are more questions than answers..
