NFF APPOINTS GERNOT ROHR AS NEW TECHNICAL ADVISER FOR SUPER EAGLES OF NIGERIA

Gernot Rohr was appointed after the recommendation from the Technical and Development Committee of the NFF.

German coach, Gernot Rohr has signed a two-year-deal with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)  to become the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles.
Rohr was appointed after the recommendation from the Technical and Development Committee of the NFF.
His appointment comes after the unsuccessful attempt by the NFF to appoint Frenchman, Paul Le Guen as the Technical adviser of Nigeria.
The 63-year-old German has managed the likes of Bordeaux, Nice, Étoile Sahel, Nantes , the national teams of Gabon, Niger and Burkina Faso.

He last managed the national team side of Burkina Faso before he was fired in December, 2015.
NFF's Technical Committee revealed that they meet with the former German defender and was considered suitable for the job.

The NFF have also confirmed that Rohr has agreed to live in Nigeria.
The committee was impressed with Mr. Rohr’s profile and current activities for the German Football Federation (DFB), so we invited him to Nigeria for exhaustive deliberations," Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, vice chairman of the committee said after meeting the German on Saturday, August 6.

He was very positive, showed great interest in the job and is ready and willing to live in Nigeria. He is also willing to work with indigenous Nigerian coaches and with the committee, and believes the Super Eagles can qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which is very important to the NFF. He swayed the committee with his calmness, good knowledge of the African terrain, focus and maturity.
Mr. Rohr has the character and confidence to take the Super Eagles to new heights of excellence. He has rich knowledge of both sub –Saharan and North African terrains and truly impressed the committee."
Rohr took Bordeaux to the UEFA Cup final in 1996 where they lost to Bayern Munich of Germany.
He was one of the 20 coaches that initially applied for the position of Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles but did not even make the final three man short-list.
Frenchman, Paul Le Guen alongside Salisu Yusuf and Belgian Tom Sainfiet made the final short-list.

Le Guen who was later selected, rejected the chance to be the coach of the Super Eagles after the NFF had made the announcement.
